LEGENDARY jazz trumpeter/composer Kenny Wheeler (pictured) has given his archive of original music to the Royal Academy of Music so that it can be made available online to jazz musicians and composers throughout the world.

The archive consists of Wheeler’s handwritten scores and selected momentos accumulated during his career stretching back to the 1950s.

Wheeler, 82 in January, is still busy writing, recording and performing his own music. “It gives me pleasure to know that my archive will be there to help future generations of young composers with their own musical journeys,” he said.

Once the process of cataloguing the archive gets under way, the RAM’s jazz department will be able to say how and when it can be accessed.
