THE summer season of bandstand concerts comes to an end this weekend.

This Friday evening at Parliament Hill, award-winning Brazilian songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Gui Tavares plays jazz-funk, soul, Afro and Latin music, full of fun.

Saturday afternoon has the City Wind Orchestra at the St James’s Park bandstand. This is a relatively young orchestra, set up two years ago to provide an opportunity for anyone with an interest in woodwind, brass and percussion to play in a new wind orchestra.

Sunday afternoon has three bandstand concerts:

The Fulham Brass Band plays at the St James’s Park bandstand. Formed over 100 years ago, the band is one of London’s finest.

Five Go Jiving plays splendid swing jazz at Parliament Hill.

Formed 25 years ago by singer guitarist John Bayley (pictured), this is a jump-jive band paying tribute to the work of the likes of Cab Calloway and Louis Prima.

It’s been playing at the bandstand for about 20 years.

Finally, on Sunday, the Jacques Café Band is at the Golders Hill Park bandstand.

Dating back to the 1970s, the band plays smart, jazz-tinged pop.

The last bandstand concert of the season is on Monday afternoon at Golders Hill Park.

The Covent Garden String Quartet of young female musicians is playing from their extensive repertoire, ranging from Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart to Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and the Beatles.
