Rock and Pop: Coming up...

WHEN walking from Camden Town tube, it’s easy to get distracted by all the fine music venues along the way.

But if you plough on past Dingwalls, you will be rewarded with the unpredictable prowess of the Monarch.

Perhaps the biggest draw of this venue is that you can see the bands from the street.

The Monarch plays host to many up-and-coming bands. So on Tuesday (Aug 9), expect big things from Hastings rock ’n’ roll blues band Hornet.

They already have a good following, after winning a place, under the name Inseminate, in the Live and Unsigned 2010 finals.

Joe Thompson (vocals), Tollef Rikje-Pearson (guitar), Max Thompson (bass) and Alex Burt (drums) know the value of hard work, having been on the road for more than two years.

They’ve played sold-out shows at The Borderline and the O2 Academy Islington.

And remember, The Monarch’s much easier to get to from Chalk Farm tube and you don’t have to risk being distracted by quite as many tempting venues. Then again there’s Barfly, the Enterprise, Cottons...
