FORMIDABLE French alto sax player Pierrick Pedron is making the rounds of North London jazz haunts over the weekend, playing with local bands.

His post-bop style is variously described as mannered, sophisticated, bittersweet and literate.

This Friday, June 3, he’s kicking off at the Map Café jazz café boutique playing a great set with trumpeter Damon Brown, pianist Leon Greening and Matt Skelton on drums and Adam King on bass.

On Sunday afternoon he’s at the Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill, playing with the Pete Chapman Trio.

Later that day, he at Bar Solo in Inverness Street, Camden Town, playing with British also sax player Christian Brewer and his band.

Brewer will be in action again next Tuesday evening, playing another alto sax duo with Peter King at the Lower Ground Bar, West End Lane.
