Classical and Jazz - KX Collective play King's Place

THE KX Collective of students from Camden and Islington schools are playing their own multi-media compositions at King’s Place early next month. Their performances are part of the London Sinfonietta’s three-day mini-fest Written/ Unwritten from Thursday, June 2 to Saturday, June 4.
Launched in late 2009, the KX Collective puts together new work with professional help from London Sinfonietta players, together with guest composers and directors.
Currently, the collective has 23 members drawn from Acland Burghley, Channing School, St Aloysius, Hampstead School, Highbury Grove, Camden School for Girls, William Ellis, and La Sante Union.
Their music performed during the Written/Unwritten mini-fest will be composed during the three-day event, drawing inspiration from folk and jazz influences in the festival. Professional assistance will come from London Sinfonietta players, pianists Fraser Turner and Matthew Bourne, saxophonist/ composer Paul Griffiths and sound artist Ian Dearden.
The KX Collective is part of London Sinfonietta’s quest to involve young people in Camden and Islington in music making, working with education providers, youth and community organisations.
A year ago, the group created and performed new work celebrating the re-opening of Islington Assembly Halls.
In August, the group is performing in the Global Generation festival at King’s Cross, exploring the idea of music in an outdoor environment and focusing on sustainability issues.
