Future of North London Polytechnic building still uncertain

THE future of the historic North London Polytechnic building in Kentish Town Road is in the balance after a government planning inspector adjourned a hearing over whether it should be demolished.
On Tuesday, the Whitehall officer had to delay the hearing into it’s future – after they went to the wrong venue for the meeting.
The inspector and the owners of the site, currently a Pizza Express, went to the Camden Town Hall instead of a meeting room nearby – meaning the hearing had to be delayed until the afternoon.
This meant not all evidence could be heard and the hearing has been delayed until the end of November.
The appeal came about after developers Redview were told they could not renew planning permission granted in 2007 to demolish the brick block, built in 1927, and replace it with flats.
Architect and chairman of the Prince of Wales Road Residents Association Alan Morris gave evidence.
He said: “We presented our case well and we have done the best job we could do, but it is still 50/50 as to what will happen.”
