Camden tenants to face fines of up to £20,000 for unlawful Olympic lets

CAMDEN homeowners could face fines of up to £20,000 if they decide to rent out their flats or houses for lucrative prices during the Olympics.

While 27 London boroughs have indicated that they have no problem with properties being let for short periods and that anyone planning to do so did not require planning permission, Camden is taking a different tack, warning that anyone in the borough letting properties for short periods without permission could be served with enforcement notices.

In some cases they could receive fines of up to £20,000 if they were deemed to be repeat offenders.

Apparently unaware of the rules, dozens of property entrepreneurs have started the ball rolling as summer 2012 approaches by offering their homes up for short-term lets.

A two-bedroom apartment in King’s Cross, a three-bedroom flat in Bloomsbury are already being advertised on Olympic lettings site rentduringthegames.com with a weekly price tag of over £2,000.
