CHILDREN made some exotic new friends when a few creepy crawlies made a visit to a Somers Town play centre on Thursday.

Around 50 youngsters got to know a collection of reptiles and insects at the Plot 10 community project in Chalton Street.

Star guests were Jaffa the snake, Cornelius the cockroach, Rosie the spider, Martin the millipede, and Marsha and Mary the snails.

Sally Warren, manager of the charity, said: “It is the first time I have ever been close up to a spider that big and the same happened to the kids. I think that the children in this area don’t get to see, touch or learn about animals like those, so it was an amazing experience for everybody.”

Abby, aged eight, said: “It was really fun. The snake was very silky and soft, and the tarantula really hairy.”

Six-year-old Harley added: “The animal that I liked the most was the snake because I put it around my neck. I didn’t feel afraid.”
The animals were brought to the centre by Zoologica, an organisation that brings workshops to schools and play centres across the country.
