A LIVE music venue faces being stripped of its licence following years of complaints over noise and anti-social behaviour.

Heroes Bar in Kentish Town, which has also traded as Bullet Bar and The Flowerpot, is being investigated by police after residents claimed it was making their lives a misery.

The Kentish Town Road venue has a history of causing anger among its neighbours but the owner, who re-opened it in November last year, promised he and his new management team would “break away from the problems of the past”.

It is understood that during a meeting with residents in November, he and the new manager Carol-Ann Williams promised to install sound-proofed doors and said door staff would limit the number of revellers smoking outside to 15.

But it is believed Ms Williams left shortly afterwards following a disagreement with her bosses – and residents say drunken revellers continued to congregate and urinate in their gardens.

Inspections of the premises also found a cockroach infestation and inadequate fire safety measures. Sixteen residents, a residents’ association and two ward councillors have supported police calls to revoke the licence. Environmental health officers have also written in support of police.

Jules Tolchard, who lives in Royal College Street, said things have been so bad she has been forced to sleep in the bathroom. She added: “I literally cannot sleep in either the living room or the bedroom due to high noise levels.
I am forced to sleep in my bathroom, where I have a permanent bed with an air mattress.
The noise is terrible – thrashing drums, thumping bass, screaming and shouting and so-called singing – even though my flat is on the fourth floor across the road and I have secondary glazing."

“The noise the customers make outside on the street is equally bad – the screaming, shouting, smashing glass, chanting, singing, arguing, running around in traffic, beeping horns going on until the small hours.”

Kentish Town councillor Meric Apak said: “The licence holder has repeatedly and blatantly allowed his staff to breach Camden Council’s licensing objectives.”

Town Hall officials will review Heroes Bar’s licence tonight (Thursday).

The New Journal tried unsuccessfully this week to contact the management of the venue
