Blue plaque street? Artists latest to be honoured
IS Marchmont Street rapidly becoming the blue plaque capital of London?
The King’s Cross shopping street had not one but two plaques unveiled this week – following hard on the heels of a wall-mounted memorial to comic Kenneth Williams, who grew up in the street.
The latest plaques are in honour of two Victorian artists – William “Bird’s Nest” Hunt and John Skinner Prout.
Hunt earned his nickname through his renowned ability in water colour to capture figurative country scenes.
Prout was known for taking one of the first ever lithographic printers to Australia, where he lived for a decade.
While the plaques are not official English Heritage markers, the Marchmont Street Association deemed the pair worthy residents and now two plaques mark their tenures in the area. |
