Round 2 in school sacking
A SECOND teaching assistant at Carlton Primary School is pursuing a case for compensation after being sacked following a violent confrontation between staff at a Christmas party.
Nicola Hearne, who was punched in the mouth during the clash outside a Bloomsbury hotel, is expected to argue that she was unfairly dismissed
at a tribunal hearing scheduled for next year.
She was fired after an investigation by senior staff and governors at the Grafton Road school led to a dismissal on the grounds of gross misconduct.
The other woman involved in the incident last December, Phillippa Heath-Philpotts, was also dismissed but failed last week in her own legal challenge when a tribunal threw out her case for unfair dismissal.
During the hearing, Ms Heath-Philpotts gave evidence claiming she only hit Ms Hearne out of self-defence and that she had been the victim of loud verbal abuse. Ms Hearne was accused of grabbing Ms Heath-Philpotts in a fit of rage, pulling at her hair and forcing her to the ground.
A school statement said: “Whilst we still have to await the outcome of the second appeal, due to take place in the New Year, we hope that there can now be a partial closure of the incident. The education and wellbeing of our pupils is our top priority.” |
