Search for John ends in tragedy

Tributes to bets analyst

A WEEK-long search for a 30-year-old who went missing after a night out in Camden Town ended tragically when police recovered his body from the Regent’s Canal.
A patrol found the body of John Regan, an analyst for a Camden Town sports betting company, in the canal in the early hours of last Thursday.
It was almost exactly a week since he had last been seen alive outside Bar Tok in Chalk Farm Road shortly after midnight on November 19. His disappearance had triggered a massive media and online appeal by his friends, family and colleagues.
A statement issued on behalf of Mr Regan’s family said: “This was a tragic accident and John will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family particularly request that any tribute be left on the Facebook Tribute page and not by the canal and that John be remembered in places where he was happiest. We would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support over the last week.”
Police missing persons investigations traced CCTV of Mr Regan making his way to the canal path on his way home to Chalcot Road, Primrose Hill, on the night he disappeared.
When no footage of him leaving the canal path was found, police divers began a search.
A Met police spokeswoman said: “At around 03:00 on Thursday, 26 November, officers on patrol saw a body in the water near West Quay in Camden. The body was recovered and a man was pronounced dead at the scene. We are satisfied that the deceased is John Regan 30-year-old John Regan of Chalcot Road, NW1 who had previously been reported missing to police.”
There was no evidence Mr Regan had been robbed, and police confirmed that his death was not being treated as suspicious.
An inquest into his death was opened at St Pancras Coroner’s Court on Monday, and adjourned until March pending the results of medical tests.
Mr Regan moved from his home in Matlock, Derbyshire to work for Star Lizard Ltd, a sports consultancy in Jamestown Road.
