Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 December 2009

Centre forward

• IN reply to the letter (Why has this centre for our community been left to rot? November 26), it is common knowledge that some parts of St Pancras Community Centre are badly in need of some attention which is why we are working in partnership with the council on a brand new building on the site.
John Lefley is right to point out the state of our entrance, the toilets, accessibility etcetera.
It is a large building which has, frankly, been neglected in terms of major repairs for many years. Our joint plan for the new building under the council’s area review programme, will give the community a brand new facility, fit for purpose for our large programme or work, as well as room for new services.
We are very excited about the new building plan and will be carrying out consultations with all our user groups over the next few months to make sure that the new building will be exactly what is needed. In the meantime, I’m afraid that we will all have to bear with the current building, especially the main hall area and toilets, which is the real area of complaint.
Despite its poor state, the centre is in constant demand for all sorts of functions, as well as housing our important work with older people each day. We’ve far more requests for use than we can accommodate. We take this as another sign for the need of a new facility.
Ruth Roberts
Director, St Pancras Community Association
