Historic win – Caroline makes her mark as Saints’ first woman fighter

CAROLINE Marks sealed her place in the history books when she became the first woman to represent St Pancras Amateur Boxing Club marking her debut with a win.
The triumphant 24-year-old honed her skills at the gym in Talacre Road, Kentish Town.
When she graduated to the ring she proved she was ready to rumble by recording a unanimous victory at the Saints’ annual dinner show.
And Caroline was in action again on Saturday when she stopped Aysa Koskal in the second round of a scheduled three two-minute round contest in Cambridge.
Afterwards she said: “I’m glad I didn’t get knocked out or I’d have never lived it down!
“Honestly, the fact that I’m the first woman from within the club to represent St Pancras wasn’t made into a very big deal and that’s good because it’s a sign that women are becoming accepted in the sport.”
Caroline originally joined St Pancras just over a year ago when she moved to London to take a masters in economics at University College London in Euston.
Although she has since returned home to Ireland, she hasn’t ruled out coming back to London to represent the Saints again one day.
“Leaving the club was the worst thing about leaving London. I would definitely like to compete for St Pancras again in the future.”

Champs Mourad and Ady

MIDDLEWEIGHTS Mourad Boudjemaa and Ady Nkalonatia conquered the capital on Sunday when they were crowned London Senior Novice champions.
Held at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, St Pancras ABC star Mourad gained revenge over Jake Brown in the ‘B’ Class final.
Having lost to Brown in the same competition last year, Mourad put in a powerful display to gain a unanimous decision from the judges after four two-minute rounds.
Team-mate Ady had two fights on the night before being crowned king of the ring in the ‘A’ Class division.
In the final he dismantled Michael Norgrove from Repton ABC over three two minute rounds to seal a unanimous decision and take the title in style.
Afterwards Ady said: “It feels great conquering London. It was a great experience, and the pressure of fighting on such a big stage really brought out the best in me.”
