More council homes on way to Town Hall’s auction

TWO more batches of council homes are set to be sold off at auction as housing chiefs continue their programme of property sales.
Auctions are due to take place on Tuesday and on December 7. Among the lots, private bidders can get their hands on a flat in a mansion block in Antrim Road, Belsize Park and Highgate properties in Chester Road and Highgate West Hill. A flat in Sandall Road, Camden Town, will also be made available to the highest bidder.
The homes were originally meant for people desperate for accommodation on the long list for council homes but the Town Hall say they have fallen into disrepair, leading them to be released for sale.
The sell-offs, opposed by the majority of tenants, are being justified by the council on the grounds that the revenue will pay for new kitchens and bathrooms for the homes that are retained.
