Saints go marching on: Fighters punching out a bright future

MIDDLEWEIGHT Mourad Boudjemaa was crowned king of the ring on Thursday when he won the North West London Senior Novice Championships at Hayes Workingmen’s Club.
The hard-hitting 29-year-old (left) put in a commanding display over four two-minute rounds in the ‘B’ Class contest to gain a unanimous points victory against Keith Dyer from Times Boxing Club. Mourad said: “It was a hard fight but I just did enough to earn the judges’ decision, so I’m happy.”
Mourad now progresses to the all London finals, which take place at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Sunday.
Saints team-mate Ady Nkalonatia will also appear on the show after being awarded a bye in the middleweight ‘B’ Class division.
Welterweight Kian Thomas just missed out after narrowly losing on points in his semi-final.

A TEAM of fighters from St Pancras Amateur Boxing Club enhanced their ring reputations when they turned out at the Irish Centre in Camden.
The club’s annual dinner show proved a big hit with the fans, who turned out in force last Wednesday to watch the action unfold in 11 thrilling bouts.
The fight of the night saw Saints’ star Ricky Redhead stop Harry Smith from Waterlooville Boxing Club in the third and final round of their 62kg contest. Team-mates Daniel Troy, Charlie Worley, Davis Pagan, Tony Preston and Caroline Marks also all returned to the Saints’ gym in Talacre Road, Kentish Town, victorious after impressing the judges.
Talented trio John Casey, Ossie Jervier (inset) and James Feeney were unlucky to lose their bouts on points.
After the show St Pancras coach Steve Smith said: “It was a great night. All our boxers fought really well, even the ones that lost. It’s safe to say that the club is looking forward to a very bright future.”
