Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 November 2009

Predicting a ‘dirty’ election fight

• WE want vision – not vitriol!
The Labour Party still don’t get it, that is if the comments of ex-Labour councillor and activist Robert Latham are anything to go by (Who rules in borough? November 12).
He said he was surprised to receive a leaflet recently from the Conservatives – is that because Camden Labour still believe they have a pre-destined right to run our borough?
Labour have held every council seat in Regent’s Park for as long as I can remember, with its councillors serving on the previous executive. This was the same Labour executive that left Camden with some of the worst housing in London, and the same party that, now in government, is withholding over £400million so desperately needed and overdue for repairs to houses across our borough.
We see the pattern all over the country, when an incumbent party, of whatever colour, starts to believe it will never be voted out of office, it gets complacent.
Mr Latham predicts a “dirty” election campaign next year. I think it’s quite disappointing that he has made the first move towards that by deriding opposition parties as “nasty”, “tawdry” and accuses them of “abusing” Camden.
I think most residents, I for one, will be voting for a party that offers positive solutions and some hope for the future of our borough.
