Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 November 2009

License bike and rider?

• AS a former cyclist I am happy that there are more bikes on the road (Cycling is dangerous – so be safe not sorry, November 12).
Some break the law, rush lights, ignore lights go up one-way streets the wrong way or, usually young, use the pavement regularly.
I lived in Jersey in my youth and all bikes had to be registered and had to display in a small bracket the number of the bike. Not to do so was an offence.
To register every bike reduces crime, bikes being stolen or used by drug dealers to distribute their products.
Cyclists have to obey the law, the Highway Code, and maybe we need to legislate for all of them be registered and insured.
They are road users after all.
