Unstoppable: Anthony Clark
Unstoppable: Anthony Clark
Phoenix fired up by Clark

FORMER Reddot player Anthony Clark returned to haunt his old club at the weekend when he scored a hat-trick to fire Phoenix nine points clear at the top of Division One.
The relentless striker opened the scoring from the penalty spot after debutant Terry O’Neill was brought down in the box by Dots’ defender James Ricketts. Clark doubled the advantage before the break when he rounded keeper Jimmy Russell before coolly slotting the ball into an empty net.
The game was made safe early in the second half when John Lawson’s free-kick found its way into the back of the net following a mix-up between Russell and John Yates.
Reddot manager Micky Dowsett offered his side a glimmer of hope when he headed home his first goal in almost four years. But Clark hadn’t finished terrorising his former team-mates, and went on to complete his hat-trick with his second penalty after Kevin Duffy was fouled by Justin Howsego.
The unstoppable Clark has now scored 22 goals in just seven games this season.
New title favourites Phoenix continued to dish out the punishment, and scored a fifth when Justin Pryce raced onto Aaron Clarke’s loose back-pass.
Paul Reid pulled a goal back for Reddot from the spot, but it would have offered Dowsett little consolation as the champions slumped to a 5-2 defeat.
After the game Phoenix manager Dave Harber said: “I want to thank the whole squad for their efforts on Sunday. We’ve proven that we can compete with the best, and the club is looking forward to a bright future,
“As for winning the title, we’ve put ourselves in the driving seat but there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us.
“The players would also like to thank former club secretary Karen Marshall for all the hard work that she continues to put in behind the scenes,” he added.
