Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 November 2009

In Touch project aims to go from strength to strength

• I AM writing to correct inaccuracies in John Gulliver’s column (Volunteers kicked into touch? November 6), regarding In Touch.
CSV has been running the In Touch telephone befriending project for over 10 years, with funding from London Borough of Camden.
In Touch provides social support for housebound older people and the opportunity for older people to remain independent and contribute to the local community through volunteering.
I wish to reassure members, volunteers and supporters of In Touch that volunteers have definitely not been told they will have to stop giving service.
On the contrary, we would welcome new volunteers to enable us to reach even more housebound older people in the borough.
Funding has NOT dried up.
I met with council commissioners only recently, who voiced their support for and commitment to the service.
The office where In Touch has been based is no longer suitable for the project and we have been working with the council to find alternative accommodation – though I should stress that as the prime activity of In Touch is telephone befriending, it can be done from home, meaning that even frail, housebound or disabled people can be active volunteers.
CSV is dedicated to continuing the In Touch service.
We maintain a good relationship with the council who, like us, look forward to seeing the project go from strength to strength.
If you are interested in volunteering or finding out more about In Touch, please call 020 7974 1526
