Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 November 2009

Fears for clients of CABs

• THE two bureaux affected by the changes implemented by Camden CAB Trustees are Kentish Town and Kilburn.
There are no volunteers at Kentish Town and 23 at Kilburn.
Of these, 17 expressed their concerns in a letter you published October 29 while the remaining six were simply not available to comment at the time of sending the letter; 74 per cent represents a significant majority of those volunteers affected.
Benet Brandreth is, therefore, clearly wrong to assert that his approach has the support of the “vast majority” of volunteers affected.
It is sad that Mr Brandreth has not shown anything like the speed he has shown in writing his letter (November 5) in responding directly to volunteers.
Despite being initially excluded from the consultation process, volunteers have, over many months, sought clarification and raised issues about the speed, manner, costs and effects of changes being made.
If he or any of the Trustees had sought to engage more with volunteers, maybe we would not have such a majority fearing for the welfare of our clients.
