Olé for sad Spurs’ aspirations

SO there you have it.
Ten years of league encounters for Spurs against Arsenal and not a single victory.
But, hey, this was going to be “their year” again.
Rather than Spurs accepting their true position within the English top flight, the fixation they have with their neighbours makes their own relative lack of success all the more bitter for them.
The pre-match statements of intent had a familiar ring: relative size of the clubs and the strength of the players on the bench. Arsenal just let their football do the talking.
A mitigation plea of Spurs missing players through injury contradicts the strength-of-bench boast, as does the clubs’ stature looking at their relative achievements.
Arsenal had a Champions League game midweek while Spurs fans were at home watching Waterloo Road. Arsenal are looking to win their 14th league title, while Spurs can only dream of a third championship.
The “olés” echoing at the Emirates on Saturday were not of irony but pity.
As Arsenal toyed with Tottenham, one could only imagine what excuses would be made by Spurs fans after such a humbling end to a decade of delusion.
When Harry Redknapp suggested that there is no difference between the two clubs it was the mumblings of a man in denial. While Spurs are in the same league, they are not in the same class.
