Arshavin’s from Russia in love

Boss Wenger reveals talented star’s passion for Gunners’ style after Euro victory

Champions League
Arsenal 4, AZ Alkmaar 1

ARSENE Wenger has revealed pint-sized Andrei Arshavin is “in love” with the Gunners’ slick passing game.
The Arsenal manager paid tribute to his “special quality” after the little Russian ran riot at the Emirates last night (Wednesday). The Gunners took a giant stride towards the Champions League knockout stages by ripping Ronald Koeman’s AZ to shreds.
“Arshavin was outstanding tonight,” said Wenger. “Every time he gave the ball, it was a decision within a fraction of a second. That is top, top quality. At Arsenal, we only have players who can play and pass and score. He plays with love for the way we play our game.”
The Dutch champions looked distinctly Z-list, while the Gunners were the A team. Captain Cesc Fabregas seemed almost too embarrassed to celebrate after his tame effort trickled past keeper Sergio Romero on 25 minutes.
Samir Nasri doubled the lead on 42 minutes after selling two defenders a brilliant dummy and calmly curving in a side-footed finish – the Frenchman’s first goal in nine months.
Fabregas got his second shortly after the restart, but the goal of the night came after a cheeky Eduardo back-heel found Arshavin who squared to Abou Diaby for a crisp, controlled half volley.
A stunning reaction save from Manuel Almunia denied AZ’s target man Graziano Pelle but the keeper should have done better to stop substitute Jermain Lens from grabbing a consolation.
The Gunners will be guaranteed top spot if they beat Standard Liege at home on November 24.
