Sculptor inspires arty pupils to aim for the stars

THE mysteries of the universe were the subject of an art project at St Joseph’s Primary School in Holborn this week.
Sculptor Steven Gontarski spent a day working with children, inspiring them to draw spacescapes, resplendent with moons, stars and a host of friendly aliens.
Mr Gontarski has been commissioned to produce a sculpture for the central piazza of a new development at Central St Giles, near the school.
As part of the deal, developer Legal and General and Mitsubishi Estates has been working with the school to improve its building and playground. Mitsubishi’s general manager, Masayuki Sato, popped by and tried his hand at designing a rocket ship. The results of the day’s work are due to be posted on the school website.
