National success for Cally Masters
A TEAM of six female swimmers from the Cally Masters Swim Club shone at the National British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships at the weekend.
Held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, Edwidge Fortier kicked off the medal haul when she collected bronze in the 1500m freestyle in the 30 to 34 years age group.
She also put in creditable displays to finish 10th in the 400m freestyle and sixth in the 800m freestyle.
Swimming in the 25 to 29 years age group, team-mate Coralie Seary topped the Cally medal table after winning gold in the 400m freestyle and silver medals in her 100m individual medley, 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle events.
The medal count continued to climb with Christine Jaeggi winning bronze for her efforts in the 200m butterfly.
Competing in the 25 to 29 years category, she also touched home in fourth place in the 100m and sixth in the 50m butterfly events.
In the 50 to 54 years age group, Sara Perry took bronze in the 200m breaststroke, as well as finishing fourth in the 100m breaststroke and sixth in the 200m freestyle.
Despite missing out on the medals, Catherine Traynor and Charlotte Moss swam personal best times in their respective age categories.
In the relay races, Seary, Fortier, Jaeggi and Traynor teamed up to take fifth place in the 100 plus freestyle, while Moss, Seary, Jaeggi and Traynor finished fourth in the 100 plus medley relay. |
