Temporary home for school
A LEISURE centre that has been empty for four years since it was closed because of cash problems is set to re-open – as a school for deaf children.
The Jubilee Waterside centre in Camley Street, King’s Cross, will become a temporary home for the Frank Barnes school for deaf children while a permanent school in built. It currently occupies a site in Swiss Cottage, which has been earmarked for an academy, necessitating the move.
The Town Hall’s education chief, Conservative councillor Andrew Mennear welcomed the news, and added that the home would be temporary as the school would eventually be paired with another of the borough’s primary schools.
He said: “One of the key plans for the future of Frank Barnes is to co-locate it with another, mainstream primary, to help counter difficulties pupils have encountered when they move on to secondary schools. The Jubilee will provide a temporary home until new premises are sorted out.” |
