School’s tender loving cash: £7m rebuild launched

THE first stage of a £7million project to rebuild a Chalk Farm school was launched this week with a visit by Holborn and St Pancras Labour MP Frank Dobson.
Mr Dobson met pupils, parents, teachers and governors at Chalcot School, in Harmood Street, to hear their ideas on renovating the red-brick, Victorian building.
Architects gauging the ideas of pupils held seminars during Friday. Mr Dobson said: “It is a special place doing important work.”
The school has a roll of about 50 pupils aged between 11 and 16, drawn from five north London boroughs.
Headteacher Donna McCallum said: “It is an old building that really needs some tender loving care.” Work should start in 2011. The school plans to find temporary accommodation during renovation.
