Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 29 October 2009

We can’t be choosy about free speech

• FREE speech cannot be selective.
Either we uphold the principle of free speech and allow those with views we disagree with to express them, or we shut them up.
Suppressing ideas doesn’t mean they will go away; on the contrary they will probably flourish.
However, when it comes to them putting their words into action, that is a different matter. Then it is necessary to clamp down.
The best way to deal with the reactionary and racist ideas of the far right fascist parties like the BNP is to defeat those ideas.
