Health centre challenge heads for the High Court

A LANDMARK legal challenge against NHS Camden proposals to open a health centre in Euston could be heard as early as December, a High Court judge has confirmed.
Lawyers acting for Bob Austin were encouraged by Judge Mr Justice Ouseley’s announcement on Tuesday that a preliminary hearing should be “expedited” to a date before the winter recess.
If the judge approves the legal arguments, a full Judicial Review will follow.
NHS Camden decided to open a “GP-Led” health centre in Hampstead Road without consulting patients and has chosen private firm Care UK as operator. But Mr Austin, who is backed by Camden’s Keep Our NHS Public campaign, says health chiefs have failed in their “legal duty” to consider his views.
If the challenge is successful, patients across the country could have a fairer say in the future of the NHS.
