Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 22 October 2009

Wheelchair refused

• SUNDAY morning at Elsworthy Rise bus stop the fairly empty C11 bus, going towards West Hampstead opens its doors to let people get on. A mother with her teenage daughter in a wheelchair requests the driver for wheelchair access.
The driver absolutely refuses because he has one buggy already in situ. He was adamant. So the mother had to fold the chair up and struggle with it while her daughter struggled on to the bus.
The mother with the buggy did not move. There would have been room for the young woman with the wheelchair to have had assistance onto the bus. How was this situation possible?
It was shocking and totally wrong and those responsible for this treatment should be hanging their heads in shame.
