Leo’s beautiful butterfly
YOUNGSTERS from Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club were in outstanding form over the weekend in the opening round of the National Arena Swimming League.
The Camden contingent dominated the pool in Watford – and recorded 33 wins and nine second place finishes in the 50 event gala.
The league is one of the most important swimming championships in the UK with more than 16,000 swimmers from across England and Wales taking part in the competition each year.
Among the top performers was 15-year-old Leo Jaggs, who broke the one-minute barrier and shaved four seconds off his personal best when he won the 100m butterfly in 59.91.
Team-mate Sophie Rittenhouse, 14, also put in an eye-catching display when she took two seconds off her personal best to win the 100m backstroke in 1:04.51.
The Camden swimmers continued their outstanding form in the relay events, winning 15 of the 16 races.
Afterwards head coach Dave Hobbs said: “This is a great start to the season for the club, and an outstanding team performance. We need to build on this success in the coming rounds.” |
