Labour’s Mary dies at 66
MARY Wallis-Jones, one of Camden’s longest serving and dedicated Labour Party members, has passed away. She was 66.
Mary died on Sunday after fighting cancer. She had been given a clean bill of health in July but the illness returned. Just two weeks ago Mary travelled to the party conference in Brighton, despite being in some pain.
Born in Sussex during the war, her parents Ewan and Veronica had been bombed out of homes in Belsize Park three times and so travelled to Lower Beding.
Mary worked as a market researcher before dedicating herself to politics.
She lived since 1983 in Leighton Grove, Kentish Town, having moved there from Parkhill Road, Belsize Park, and was well known and much loved among people in her neighbourhood.
Her funeral is at midday on Wednesday, October 28 at St Benet’s Church on the corner of Ospringe Road and Lupton Street, NW5. |
