Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 15 October 2009

Incinerator dangers

• EVERY resident of Camden, Islington and Barnet will be affected by the North London Waste Plan, about to be made public.
There will be consultation on 10 new domestic waste sites in these three (and four other) London boroughs. On Tuesday October 20 Barnet’s planning committee may approve a huge two-stage incinerator at Brent Cross, with one incinerator plant on the Edgware Road, and the other at the M1 roundabout, with a tall chimney next to the high North Circular Road flyover. Another might be built on the Barnet-Haringey border.
An incinerator at Brent Cross might well emit particulates that cross the human lung-to-blood interface and contain cadmium, lead, mercury, arsenic and chromium, together with acid gases.
John Cox, NW10
