Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 15 October 2009

Help the volunteers

• QUEEN’S Crescent Community Association (Time to save 10 O’Clock Club! October 8) are to be congratulated in saving this much-loved facility on the Heath from closure.
It is a reminder, if one is needed, of the importance of local voluntary effort in delivering local services. Unfortunately one gets the impression from examples of cuts to funding at Maiden Lane community centre, the closure of the West Hampstead community centre and the closure of the Jubilee Club by the council that such voluntary effort is neither recognised nor appreciated. With likely cuts in public expenditure it is a strong voluntary sector with its access to charity funds, that can plug the gap. What is needed is support from councillors and council officers.
