Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 September 2009

Unfit for 21st century

• FURTHER to “Why the rush with £5billion ‘New Town’”? (Letters September 17), the scheme has been recommended for approval by Barnet at an ordinary planning committee meeting this week. But it is not fit for 21st century environmental standards and needs a full public inquiry.
Friends of the Earth groups oppose the current plans.
Both Camden and Brent councils have already opposed the Brent Cross New Town plan, which will, according to Barnet’s own figures, put more than 29,000 extra cars on our local roads every day. Developers claim green credentials and that they are “pro FoE” but that just won’t wash with us.
We need the whole matter to be called in by the Secretary of State.
