Big kick-off thrills on the glory trail

Camden & IslingtonYouth League

MARKET Road in Islington was buzzing once again on Friday when the new season kicked off in style.
Chapel Boys were among the opening day winners after goals from Max Tyson, Darius James and Kane Thompson sealed a 3-0 win over Islington Admiral Youth in the Under-9s North Division. Chapel also won in the under-12s age group with George Nash and Charly Bailey scoring two goals each and a strike from Lewis Dickinson completing a 5-0 win over Belsize Park.
Isledon Wolves started their campaign in the Under-11s ‘B’ League with a battling 1-1 draw against Fulham Wanderers.
Having gone a goal down, Eliezer Kafuti struck the equaliser after adding the finishing touches to a perfect pass from Jason Rice. Isledon managed to net all three points in the Under-13s ‘A’ League when they came from a goal down to beat Locomotive Youth.
With shot-stopper EJ Gyebi putting in a player-of-the-match performance, goals from hotshots Alfie Costello and Aaron Hammond sealed a 2-1 win.
Chapel Under-10s beat Hampstead 2-0 on Monday with goals from Kevin Maya and David Nolan.
Meanwhile Lyndhurst beat Somers Town 3-0 in the Under-11s ‘B’ League thanks to goals from debutant Marsell Uba, Mani Maharjan and Dennis Robert.

Magic in Malawi Hampstead FC kits out Africa kids

YOUNGSTERS from Hampstead FC are sporting a brand new look this season.
The club’s traditional all blue kit has been replaced by a modern silver and dark grey outfit, backing NHS Camden’s “five fruit and veg a day” campaign. The shirts also boast an eye-catching stag symbol after the club’s nickname.
A far cry from the artificial pitches at Market Road, the old kits are now being used by underprivileged children in Malawi. Club member Samantha Sivapalan travelled to the landlocked country in southern Africa to donate the kits to youngsters at the Monkey Bay club.
