Girl-power spectacular
GIRL-power took over the Talacre Community Sports Centre in Kentish Town as youngsters turned out in force to show their support for a new government scheme.
Scores of eight to 18-year-olds spent the last week of their summer holidays taking part in a host of sports, including football, gymnastics and basketball.
The girls also enjoyed the chance to try out table tennis, badminton and trampolining.
The Positive Futures National Girls Get Moving Week is part of a new drive to tackle youth crime, particularly the rise in girl-related underage drinking.
Camden Sports Development officer Caleb Harris, who manages the borough’s Positive Futures’ programme, said on Friday: “I think the week went really well.
“We got girls interested in sports that they wouldn’t unusually take part in.
“Hopefully now they will go on and regularly take part in the wide range of activities that Camden Sports Development and Positive Futures offers them,” he added. |
