Playground means estate isn’t on slide

A NEW playground on an estate once troubled by anti-social behaviour has been hailed by tenants as a step in the right direction.
Youngsters got to test out new equipment in Lithos Road, West Hampstead, for the first time at a barbecue on Saturday.
Liberal Democrat ward councillor John Bryant said: “Seven years ago this estate was suffering from a range of problems. Anti-social behaviour was evident and poor management from the four housing associations that jointly own the estate didn’t help.”
But he added: “Improved security in the blocks and upgraded CCTV has reduced anti-social behaviour. And regular public meetings to listen to what the residents want is beginning to influence the way the estate is run. The community day is further evidence that real progress is being made.”
Residents said the first priority in the estate’s makeover should be new play facilities for children.
