Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 10 September 2009

Quitting is a life-saver

• WITH reference to the repot on your health page (Life-saving free service that can detect deadly aneurysms, September 3), it’s fine that the Royal Free is offering free screening for aortic aneurysm.
I hope the physicians will also inform the attendees that smoking is a major cause of the disease, a point not addressed in the article.
The patient featured, who had a small aneurysm detected, also suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, another result of smoking.
To prevent both life-threatening illnesses, don’t smoke, or quit now.
NORBERT HIRSCHHORN MD
Greencroft Gardens, NW6
