Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 10 September 2009

Ted Kennedy fought hard for disabilities law

• AS someone who is registered disabled and a disability rights campaigner I wish to pay tribute to Senator Edward Kennedy on his death.
He fought long and hard to bring about the Americans with Disabilities Act long before we in this country brought in long-needed legislation to establish the rights of all disabled people for access.
Even after the ADA it was many years before the flawed Disability Discrimination Act was in operation. Those of us campaigning for disability rights always drew attention to the ADA and the rights established for all disabled people in the USA. Ted Kennedy also worked hard to bring in legislation in respect of mental health. So to Senator Kennedy, many thanks and may you rest in peace.

Former CEO and Chair Artsline
