Weekes’s 125 fails to fire Hampstead

Middlesex County Cricket League

HAMPSTEAD failed to capitalise on a fabulous knock of 125 from Paul Weekes on Saturday as they finished 19 runs shy of victory in their Division One match against Brondesbury.
But Weekes’s big hit wasn’t the highest of the day – Billy Godleman scored 147 to guide visitors Brondesbury to 285-9 declared after 63 overs.
Opener Brandon Buckley got Hampstead off to a blistering start, racing to 45 before being bowled lbw by Ajay Sangha.
Weekes’s heroics should have sealed the win with an unbeaten 125 off 156 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. But without any real support from a struggling Hampstead batting order the home side ran out of time as they recorded 267-8 off 57 overs for a frustrating four-point draw.
In Division Two North London and South Hampstead face a drop dogfight after defeats in their respective matches against Harrow and Twickenham.
Harrow’s Darren Crook put in one of the displays of the season, taking eight wickets for just 71 runs to help dismiss North London for 163 within 44 overs. In reply Harrow easily wrapped up a six-wicket win with 167-4 in 36.3 overs.
South Hampstead gave themselves hope away at Twickenham after posting a score of 245 from 52 overs.
But the home side made light work of their target to seal an eight-wicket victory with a score of 246-2 off 48 overs.
Elsewhere in Division Two North Middlesex failed with the bat and were held to a draw against Uxbridge.
Malkeet Dhaliwal top-scored for Uxbridge, hitting 89 as the visitors managed 230 runs off 52 overs before being dismissed.
In a stifled reply, opener Evan Flowers scored 29 off 40 balls before being caught by Ryan Conner following some testing bowling from Graham Lines.
A knock of 44 from Nick Brand, in at number eight, was the only other real highlight for North Midd, who scored 164-7 from 48 overs to take a point.
In Division Three Highgate missed out on victory by just two wickets after posting more than 300 runs against Harrow.
Zac Curtis led the Highgate charge with a mighty knock of 118 not out, including 18 fours and two sixes. Temporary captain Nicholas Brunner also hit 70 as Highgate declared on 320-5 after 55 overs.
In reply, Tyrone Theophile narrowly outscored Curtis as he notched up 121 before being bowled by Tony Duckett. His knock enabled Harrow to hold out for a draw as they ended their 45-over innings on 284-8.
