London Zoo gorilla Bobby who died last year
Yeboah swings in from France!

FIRST again! Just seven days after the New Journal revealed that London Zoo was looking for a new male silverback to cheer up its lovesick gorilla girls, a deal has been struck to fly one in from France.
Twenty-stone Yeboah has been described as “charming” and “intelligent” – the perfect mate for three female gorillas at the zoo in Regent’s Park. He is due to arrive from La Boissière Du Doré Zoo later this year.
Mjukuu, Effie and Zaire were left howling in dismay, heartbroken when Bobby, the zoo’s star gorilla, died suddenly just before Christmas from heart problems. It has delayed attempts to breed at the Gorilla Kingdom exhibit at London Zoo, which is big enough for several animals.
Zoo officials visited Yeboah in France last month to establish whether he was a suitable partner for the London ladies. His picture will be shown to the gorillas this morning (Thursday).
Team leader Tracey Lee said: “Yeboah currently lives with a silverback gorilla which means that he has remained a black back gorilla but when he comes to London he will naturally take control of our gorilla group and will develop a silverback.
“He’s a very charming, fun-loving and intelligent gorilla. I think it will be love at first sight when the girls are let onto the island to look at the pictures. It’s going to be a very special moment.”
Keepers told the New Journal last week that the female gorillas would never forget Bobby, but would each be keen to become a new gorilla’s favourite mate to ensure their place in the natural hierachy.
