Kentish Town prepare for FA Cup battle against league rivals, the Hillmen
A NEW-LOOK Kentish Town team will kick-off their FA Cup campaign on Saturday when they travel to Ruislip to take on Hillingdon Borough at the Middlesex Stadium.
Taking to the pitch for the extra-preliminary round of the prestigious competition, the Townies will get to know their opponents well this season as they both play in the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League.
Town will go into the game in confident mood after netting their first win of the new campaign on Tuesday when they beat Haringey Borough at Coles Park in Tottenham.
The semi-pro side dominated the opening stages and almost took a deserved lead when James Lindsay unleashed a fierce drive from distance, which the Haringey keeper just managed to turn a way for a corner.
Haringey just started edging back into the game when their livewire striker Lloyd Opara was dismissed on the half hour mark for a second yellow card.
With their rivals down to 10 men the Townies didn’t take long to force home their advantage. Ossie Barkat swung in a dangerous ball from a corner, which was flicked on by Luke Kavanagh and smashed home by Thomas Looney.
Kentish Town sealed a 2-0 victory in the second-half when under pressure Haringey captain Bosun Adebaki headed the ball into the back of his own net.
The win was the perfect tonic for Town, who started the season in disastrous fashion on Saturday when they were thumped 8-0 away at Tring Athletic.
Afterwards new manager Rakatahr Hudson said “We are delighted to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat with a win.
“Everyone put all their efforts into achieving this victory and I am extremely proud of our commitment. It was a tough evening but it gives us confidence going forward and we still have some important players to come into the team.
“Now we can focus on the FA Cup and look to cause an upset against Hillingdon Borough.”
