£500,000 goal! Gunners back Great Ormond Street
ARSENAL manager Arsène Wenger and first-team players Cesc Fabregas, Manuel Almunia and Theo Walcott visited sick kids in Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) on Thursday.
The Gunners, who have officially chosen the famous children’s hospital in Bloomsbury as their No 1 charity, have agreed to raise £500,000 needed to open a new lung unit.
On meeting the children, Mr Wenger said: “The strength and courage they showed despite the different illnesses and health problems they suffer from was astounding.”
More than 2,000 children and newborn babies will be treated in the “Arsenal Lung Function Unit” thanks to the club.
A Gunners spokesman said it would dedicate a Premier League matchday to GOSH and hold its annual end of season fund-raising ball in aid of the charity. GOSH chief executive Dr Jane Collins said: “The partnership with Arsenal will help us to provide much better planned and welcoming space for patients and their families and will be used by small babies right up to 19-year-olds.”
EastEnders actress Barbara Windsor, pictured on page one with Mr Wenger, also attended the charity launch on Thursday.
