Hampstead’s title hopes take a dive

HAMPSTEAD’S Division One title hopes were dashed on Saturday when they suffered a 10-run defeat in their home match against Teddington.
The hosts looked on course for victory after Dexter Thomas’s 4-43 helped dismiss Teddington for 162.
Opener Stewart Harris started Hampstead’s chase in spectacular style as he hit a quick-fire 60 off 70 balls. But his effort proved to be the only real highlight in a poor batting display.
Paul Weekes, Sumeet Sharma and Rahul Sharma all went for ducks as Teddington’s Andrew Clarke stole the show with five wickets for 82 runs.
In the end Hampstead fell 11 runs short of their target after managing just 152 in 36.2 overs.
In Division Two, North Middlesex were beaten by time after bad weather restricted the number of overs in their match against Enfield.
Jack Plumb was the only batsman to cause North Midd any real problems as he top scored with 76. Enfield’s stay at the crease lasted 54.3 overs before they were all out for 145.
With rain causing disruptions, Evan Flowers did well to manage a knock of 35 before being caught. Overall North Middlesex were to manage just 109-6 off 35.2 overs before the end of play to earn a four-point winning draw courtesy of their faster run-rate.
Elsewhere in Division Two, South Hampstead and North London are still facing a relegation dog-fight after taking a point each in their matches against Southgate and Brentham.
Having chalked up 210, South Hampstead came within three wickets of beating Southgate, who managed to hold out on 152-7. North London needed lots of resolve vs Brentham who scored 234-6 before declaring. In reply North London were struggling on 134-8, but held out to avoid defeat.
