TV actor Alderton basement blow
TELEVISION star John Alderton has lost a planning battle with his Hampstead neighbours over two proposed underground swimming pools.
Officers at the Town Hall this week approved plans for the basement extension in Redington Road at a committee meeting despite objections from the actor who starred in Upstairs Downstairs. Mr Alderton and his wife, actor Pauline Collins, had raised concerns that the conservation area was at risk of being “concreted over” by a glut of home improvement schemes. Conservative councillor Andrew Marshall, of Swiss Cottage ward, said the impact of the basement development would be “pretty minimal”.
