Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 August 2009

Caretaking standards

• I’VE worked for Camden for over 10 years as a caretaker.
I pick up litter, broken glass, needles, TVs fridges, furniture and, my personal favourite, dirty nappies and used sanitary towels.
With Veolia coming in to take over you would think I should be happy, but the thing is I will still be collecting up these items on a daily basis because Veolia will only be coming out to collect plastic bags, crisp packets and leaves once a week. Plus with the extra work Camden are putting on a caretaker’s life will be more difficult.
With the loss of so many caretakers the standard will drop. They should take a look at the top heavy management system in Camden and how they come up with these ideas – paying someone to do a part-time job on full-time money. It’s not fair to tenants or staff.
