‘Ripper’ pathologist must report new work
THE pathologist who wrongly concluded that a “Camden Ripper” victim died of natural causes has been told to report any new work he undertakes to the General Medical Council (GMC).
Dr Freddy Patel, who has conducted post mortems on hundreds of Camden residents, was subject to a private GMC review last week.
The result was posted on its website afterwards, stating that conditions had been placed put on Dr Patel’s licence. He was barred from working for the police and conducting post mortems into suspcious deaths.
As the New Journal revealed last month, Dr Patel was suspended from a government list of pathologists amid claims he had breached regulations. Investigators from the National Policing Improvement Agency have since been looking over his conclusions in the cases of Ian Tomlinson, the newspaper seller who died in the G20 protests, and Sally White, a victim of the Camden Ripper serial killer Anthony Hardy who was initially wrongly adjudged to have died from natural causes in 2002.
The GMC told Dr Patel he must keep them informed of any new work he takes on and allow them to “exchange information” about him with any employer. |
