Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 30 July 2009

Frank MP opposed privatisation

• TWO weeks ago, one of your letter-writers claimed that Frank Dobson, when health secretary, changed the law to enable doctors’ surgeries to be privatised.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The law which enabled private companies to supply GPs’ services was the Health Act 2003 which also introduced foundation hospitals. Far from going along with this act, Frank Dobson led the campaign against it becoming law. He went on to help found Keep Our NHS Public and has campaigned against the privatisation of the NHS.
As the leadership of the Tories and the Lib Dems both support the government franchising out GP services, only principled individual MPs like Frank Dobson are keeping up the fight. We should be glad we have an MP who consistently sticks up for what he believes in.
