Tyrone fires up chase to join Simeon in GB Berlin squad

SOMERS Town sprinter Tyrone Edgar sent a timely reminder to the British selectors on Monday when he recorded a season’s best in his 100 metres heat in Rethymno, Crete.
Edgar flew to a fast time of 10.09 seconds to finish third at the meet behind American duo Ivory Williams and Mark Jelks.
Tyrone is hoping that he can still catch the selectors’ eye, and earn a place in the Great Britain squad ahead of August’s World Championships in Berlin.
The 27-year-old recently missed out on his chance to gain automatic qualification for the prestigious competition when he finished third at the World Trials and UK Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Highgate speedster Simeon Williamson left his rivals, including Edgar and Archway’s Dwain Chambers, trailing in his dust as he won the West Midlands meet in 10.05 seconds to seal his place in the Great Britain team.
The Highgate Harrier continued to improve on his times as he progressed through the early rounds, winning his heat in 10.24 secs before clocking a time of 10.15 secs in the semi-finals.
